Description
Our Client is a leader in energy and operations and are looking in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area for a Shift Supervisor for their power plant facility.
The Shift Supervisor, reporting to the Operations Manager, is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility during an assigned shift. This includes monitoring boilers, turbines, and steam plant systems. The role requires routine facility tours, overseeing personnel, and adhering to all safety regulations, environmental limits, and permits. In emergencies or unusual operations, the Shift Supervisor will coordinate activities, provide direction, and perform required tasks as needed.
Schedule:
Shift Supervisors work rotating 12-hour shifts, alternating between days and nights. This includes weekends, holidays, outage support, and vacation coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Approve requests for equipment removal for maintenance, oversee proper clearance and tagging, and issue safety permits per plant procedures.
- Maintain operations within environmental limits and permits.
- Respond to emergencies, including injuries or accidents.
- Direct and complete routine checks (shift, daily, weekly, monthly).
- Maximize operational performance and troubleshoot plant issues.
- Coordinate maintenance activities.
- Support projects as assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Train and manage a skilled, cross-functional workforce.
- Oversee technical training and development of shift personnel.
- Maintain administrative records and manage workforce activities, including housekeeping duties.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in power or resource recovery plant operations.
- Formal technical training and hands-on experience with high-pressure boilers and electrical generation (an Engineering Degree is desirable).
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- ASME QRO Provisional & Site-Specific Operators License required (must be obtained and maintained).
Critical Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of steam-generating power stations and instrument/control systems.
- Ability to create and monitor plant procedures and technical instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting, training, and technical interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
- Physical ability to work in extreme conditions, including hot/cold environments, heights, and areas with dust or noise. Must lift up to 50 lbs. and perform manual labor tasks as needed.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
