09 Feb New training to expand on the impact of climate change on investments
CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK) has introduced a new qualification that intends to provide investment professionals with a deeper insight into the risks and opportunities associated with climate change and its influence on investments. After passing an initial testing stage, the new Certificate in Climate and Investing (CCI) has been launched and made available to registrations and as a self-study course consisting of a recommended study period of 150 hours.
The course consists of a ten-part syllabus, incorporating areas like climate science, regulatory response and policy and the constantly evolving corporate reporting landscape. The course also includes tools that measure climate-related impacts on investments within public and private markets. The CFA UK announced it was creating a new certificate last year after releasing its Certificate in ESG Investing in 2021.
Will Goodhart, the CEO of CFA UK, explains that COP26 solidified the changes that need to be made and emphasised the finance industry’s commitment to collaborating with the government and society to manage and enhance the sustainability of our planet. The investment will play a critical part in the transition to net-zero.
There has never been a more critical time for investment professionals to recognise the climate risks and how to implement climate considerations into an investment portfolio. The program delivers the necessary practical skills and knowledge needed in the finance sector to ensure people can effectively play their part and meet the expectations of their clients.
The CFA UK, representing 11,500 investment professionals within the UK, states that everyone participating in the course has 12 months to complete the exam. The Chair of the CCI panel, Monica Filkova, explains that the CCI panel has played a pivotal part in establishing this qualification. Milkova highlights the importance of this much-needed qualification and to everyone that has shared their knowledge to deliver the most effective program. The syllabus has been designed to ensure individuals feel empowered to make important decisions on an area that is becoming progressively more challenging.
