Lewis Davey is delighted to be supporting a global investment business that invests in, develops and owns companies across multiple regions, sectors and business models.

With a growing emphasis on ESG, we’re looking to an “Associate – Portfolio Company Sustainability Accelerator” to work within their private capital service line.  Working with investments teams as well as the portfolio companies, the successful incumbent will work across a range of sectors including Healthcare & Life Sciences, TMT & Services. With, in the region of, $39billion AUM in private capital alone, we’re looking for an autonomous and passionate individual who can work globally with the portfolio companies to accelerate and transform the sustainability and diversity performance and the sustainability value creation of every investment during our clients ownership period.

We’re ideally looking for candidates who have a consultancy background who can work with and drive change at a plethora of different companies all at different stages of their sustainability journey. You probably be a Senior Consultant or at Associate / Associate Director level and have solid expertise around the social value and sustainability supply chain agenda.

There is flexibility over location but the preference is for London or New York.


  • Jointly with the Deal teams the Sustainability Executive and the VP - Climate Action & Circularity, responsible for onboarding new portfolio companies into our clients minimum sustainability standards, ESG-linked financing requirements, as well as ongoing expectations for sustainability and diversity performance improvements
  • Under the direction of the MD – Commercial Sustainability Advisory & Transformation, own and create the suite of new Sustainability Playbooks for the portfolio companies in private capital, across Ventures, Growth, MM, Private Equity and Future, which will help organisations of all sizes and sustainability maturity to accelerate their sustainability and diversity implementation during our client’s ownership period. These playbooks will cover commercial sustainability, corporate sustainability and diversity, inclusion & equality.  They will need to be tailored for companies of different sizes and they will integrate into our client's Value Creation Toolbox, and will need to be updated on an annual basis.
  • Working with Group communications function and sustainability team, design and run engagement & communication process with portfolio companies on all of our client’s new and upcoming sustainability priorities
  • Operate as an expert on sustainable supply chain management, as well as social sustainability/diversity and inclusion/human rights, for portfolio companies
  • Set up, manage and run the portfolio company sustainability acceleration central platform This is likely to include:
    1. Sector-specific deep dive information
    2. Licensing agreements with ESG ratings providers to provide annual scorecards and assessments of sustainability performance to help the deal teams and the portfolio companies continuously improve
    3. Management of outsourced consultancy providers who are supporting the business with driving portfolio company sustainability transformation at pace and scale
    4. Bulk deals to help portfolio companies accelerate their sustainability programmes
    5. Knowledge management and information sharing across Private Capital
    6. In due course, working with Impact Director to scale central platform to portfolio companies on bespoke impact strategies
  • Support to Deal Teams during Due Diligence, FPP and PPR to ensure purpose and high quality, high value sustainability considerations are always integrated, and that we always meet our EU SFDR obligations
  • Jointly our client’s Network team and Infra team, develop the content, programme and speakers for quarterly Sustainability Board champion sessions to ensure continuous improvement and scaling of our impact
  • Direct engagement and support to the Portfolio Companies, including the sustainability and diversity representatives in the portfolio teams during their strategy process or Full Potential Plan creation, and on an ad-hoc and ongoing basis
  • Systematize a “sustainability exit process” - jointly with the deal teams, responsible for supporting portfolio companies with ensuring the smooth transfer of sustainability data and acceleration plans during exit
  • In coordination with Group HR and Group Sustainability team, oversee ongoing programme to enhance ESG skills and training for investment professionals
  • Team-wide support and management projects
  • Ad-hoc support to MD – Sustainability Advisory & Transformation
  • Reports to MD – Sustainability Advisory
