An experienced Town Planner is required to join a reputable and thriving house builder in the east of England. It’s a great opportunity to join this close-knit and well-respected land and planning team.
Based in Norwich, you will already be an experienced Town Planner with a background in either a private or public sector setting, working for a consultancy, local authority, developer or land promoter. You could be applications-focused or working in a policy-led role. Some of the work is quite strategic in nature so the position would be equally suited to someone with a policy and local plans background as it would someone used to preparing planning submissions or managing a caseload of applications. You will also be exposed to land deals and acquisitions and will be given the chance to develop land management skills if this is an area of interest.
About the role:
The position will involve managing the majority of planning project work in-house as part of a team, from site appraisals and land promotion through to written statements and representations, preparing application documents, managing the input of sub-consultants in landscape, design, ecology and the like, presenting at committee, organising community consultation events, negotiating with land owners, councillors and officers and representing at examination and appeal.
As a result, you will need to be at a stage in your career where you are ready to take ownership of medium to large scale residential projects – 18 months' professional planning experience is therefore the minimum, and ideally you will have more. Whatever your current skillset, you will be offered comprehensive training and support to develop skills in any areas where you have not yet had much exposure.
- Upwards of 18 months experience in a town planning role (DM, policy, consultancy, strategic land promoter, another housing developer);
- MRTPI or working towards;
- Experience working in the residential sector;
- High standards of written communication;
- Confident and persuasive public speaker, able to present at committee and negotiate with key stakeholders;
- Ambitious, self-motivated but also a genuine team player;
- A keen interest in the full land and planning process – ‘cradle to grave’;
- Full UK driving licence.
