London, United Kingdom
£35k - £55k basic + pension + PMI after 1 year of service

An unique position has arisen for an experienced Town Planning professional (or a development professional with Town Planning knowledge and experience such as an architect, urban designer, architectural technician, development manager) to join a successful and innovative tech company in London who supply architectural visualisation and virtual reality services to clients across the housing and commercial development sectors (housebuilders, commercial developers, land owners, affordable and specialist housing providers).

The company produce imagery of various types to support their clients’ planning applications and the Planning and Design Director requires a Town Planning specialist to join them in analysing sites, appraising the development potential, advising on development schemes from the outset and agreeing on plans to be put forward to the planning authority. This person will then work with the internal CAD and VR design teams to inform them on the production of visuals for the client.

You may only have a 2 or 3 years’ experience, but it is essential that the incoming person has widespread knowledge of planning policies and legislation and that this knowledge is kept up to date. You will have gained some experience working on planning projects in either or local authority or private sector environment and as this is a largely client facing position, you will need to be commercially astute, confident and able to deliver information and presentations in a clear and concise manner. You will also need to be a critical thinker and problem solver, able to both think beyond the obvious and come up with alternative solutions. You will also need to be convincing in your arguments for or against design ideas, as the aim of this service is to provide valid planning advice that offers the client minimal risk of their schemes being rejected. Also essential is the ability to understand CAD design packages such as Rhino and preferably you will have some experience with 3D modelling software too. You should be adept with ADOBE packages such as Photoshop.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has already started their career in the development sector and wishes to utilise their knowledge and experience of the planning system but wants to take a slightly different career pathway with a heavy slant towards design and architecture. This forward-thinking company can offer the successful candidate the opportunity to progress to a leadership and management role, and the medium-term plan is to grow a team around the post holder – a team of development professionals who can offer this planning advisory service to a wider client pool.

You should be naturally inquisitive, keen to meet people, grow the company’s client base and have an entrepreneurial nature. Your ideas and input will be valued in their inclusive, meritocratic environment.

The company can offer a great atmosphere – busy, ambitious, informal, work hard-play hard!

The salary on offer is £35k - £55k + pension and you will be enrolled in the firm’s private medical scheme after one year of employment. Bonuses are non-contractual but if you do a good enough job for them, they will reward you!

It should be noted that due to the unusual nature of this position, the company are not expecting candidates to meet all the above criteria, and full training will be given to ensure they can deliver the role successfully.
