Low Carbon & Sustainability Jobs Market Update December 2013

Low Carbon & Sustainability Jobs Market Update December 2013

It’s been a rather manic year.  More on that in another update.  There has been a significant increase in demand for sustainability engineers and accredited BREEAM and cfsh assessors.  It goes without saying that we are always extremely keen to hear from people with a background in these areas. At the time of speaking we have a current requirement for a qualified BREEAM and Code Assessor in the Greater London area to join an environmentally and sustainability geared consultancy.

In a market that has seen a number of acquisitions the major consultancies seem to have gone quite on energy & carbon consultancy whilst the facility management, real estate and energy suppliers continue to develop and tweak their energy services offering.  We expect some movement in this market in the New Year, particularly around the Green Deal and Eco if the government don’t interfere further.

Solar continues to be reasonably buoyant in the UK both on roof top and ground mounted and we continue to see a very competitive market for solar pv project managers with commercial, MW scale project management experience.  It would seem that more funds will be available for this market so we also expect to see a greater amount of hires in corporate finance and investment.  Like Solar PM’s, Lewis Davey is aware of numerous opportunities with Cleantech funds and within advisory so we are keen to hear from analysts and investment managers with a background in M&A and investment within onshore wind and solar pv in particular.

We’re watching the Smart Cities market very closely.  There would appear to be some significant hiring at Director and Exec level on the cards and we hope to pick some of these mandates up early in 2014.
